Description
Oxoid™ Pseudomonas Cetrimide Agar (500g) is a highly selective medium designed for the isolation and identification of Pseudomonas species, particularly Pseudomonas aeruginosa, from clinical, environmental, and food samples. The medium contains cetrimide, a surfactant that inhibits the growth of most other bacteria while allowing Pseudomonas species to grow. Pseudomonas aeruginosa produces distinctive colonies on this agar, characterised by a blue-green pigmentation due to the production of pyocyanin, a water-soluble pigment.
Key Features:
- Form: Dehydrated powder
- Weight: 500g
- Application: Isolation and identification of Pseudomonas species, particularly Pseudomonas aeruginosa, from clinical, environmental, and food samples
- Composition: Contains cetrimide to inhibit the growth of non-Pseudomonas bacteria, and other nutrients that support the growth of Pseudomonas species, allowing for characteristic colony formation and pigmentation
- Preparation: Suspend 38g of the dehydrated medium in 1 litre of distilled water, mix thoroughly, and autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes
- Yield: Approximately 13.2 litres of prepared medium
- Storage: Store the dehydrated medium at 10–30°C, protected from moisture and light
- Compliance: Suitable for use in microbiological testing protocols for the selective isolation of Pseudomonas spp.
