Description

The Oxoid Legionella Latex Test is a latex agglutination test for the identification of predominant Legionella species grown on plate media from patients with suspected Legionellosis or from environmental sources.

The Oxoid Legionella Latex Test allows separate identification of Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 and serogroups 2-14 and detection of seven other Legionella species which have been implicated in human disease.

Benefits

  • Rapid Identification: Provides quick confirmation of Legionella species grown on selective media using latex agglutination, reducing time compared to traditional culture methods.
  • High Accuracy: Sensitivity up to 98.8% and specificity 100%, ensuring reliable results for diagnostic workflows.
  • Comprehensive Detection: Identifies Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1, serogroups 2–14, and seven other pathogenic species implicated in human disease.
  • Easy to Use: Simple slide agglutination format with visible clumping for positive results; no special equipment required.
  • Supports Clinical Decisions: Enables faster diagnosis of Legionnaires’ disease, aiding timely treatment and reducing mortality risk.
  • Environmental Monitoring: Suitable for testing isolates from water systems, cooling towers, and plumbing fixtures to prevent outbreaks.
  • Compact Kit: Includes reagents, controls, buffer, and cards for up to 50 tests; stored at 2–8 °C.

Applications

  • Clinical Microbiology: Confirmatory identification of Legionella species from patient samples suspected of Legionellosis.
  • Public Health & Environmental Testing: Detects Legionella in water systems, air-conditioning units, and plumbing to monitor contamination risks.
  • Outbreak Investigation: Rapid screening tool during suspected Legionella outbreaks in hospitals, hotels, and industrial facilities.
  • Research Laboratories: Used in studies involving Legionella epidemiology and pathogenicity.
