Description
Sabouraud Dextrose Agar, Emmons is used for the cultivation of fungi in a laboratory setting. Sabouraud Dextrose Agar, Emmons is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA), Emmons is a modification of Dextrose Agar described by Sabouraud. SDA is used for cultivating pathogenic and commensal fungi and yeasts.
Preparation
- Suspend 47 grams of the medium in one liter of purified water.
- Heat with frequent agitation and boil for one minute to completely dissolve the medium.
- Autoclave at 121ºC for 15 minutes. DO NOT OVERHEAT.
- Cool to 45-50ºC.
