Description
Violet Red Bile Glucose (VRBG) Agar (ISO) (Dehydrated) is a selective medium used for the enumeration of Enterobacteriaceae in food, animal feed and environmental samples. Formulated in accordance with ISO 21528 and ISO 11133:2014, it is widely used in food microbiology to assess hygiene standards, product quality and potential contamination during production.
The medium contains bile salts and crystal violet to inhibit Gram-positive organisms, allowing selective recovery of Enterobacteriaceae. Glucose fermentation produces purple-pink colonies, often surrounded by a precipitated bile halo, making results clear and easy to interpret.
