Description
Oxoid™ Schaedler Agar (500g) is a rich, non-selective medium designed for the cultivation of a wide range of anaerobic bacteria. It is particularly useful for the isolation and growth of obligate anaerobes, including Bacteroides, Clostridium, and Fusobacterium species, from clinical and environmental samples. The medium is enriched with a variety of nutrients, including peptones and yeast extract, which support the growth of anaerobic organisms that are difficult to culture on standard aerobic media.
Key Features:
- Form: Dehydrated powder
- Weight: 500g
- Application: Cultivation of anaerobic bacteria
- Composition: Contains peptones, yeast extract, and other nutrients to support the growth of anaerobic bacteria; agar provides a solid surface for colony formation
- Preparation: Suspend 43g of the dehydrated medium in 1 litre of distilled water, mix thoroughly, and autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes
- Yield: Approximately 12 litres of prepared medium
- Storage: Store the dehydrated medium at 10–30°C, protected from moisture and light
- Compliance: Suitable for use in microbiological testing protocols for the isolation and cultivation of anaerobic bacteria
