Oxoid™ MacConkey Agar (Without Salt) (500g) is a modified version of the standard MacConkey Agar, designed for the isolation and differentiation of enteric Gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli and coliforms, without the inclusion of sodium chloride (NaCl). This version is particularly useful when studying bacterial growth patterns without the potential inhibitory effect of salt on certain strains. The medium supports the growth of both lactose and non-lactose fermenters, with lactose fermenters typically producing pink colonies due to acid production, while non-lactose fermenters appear colourless.
