Description
Oxoid™ MacConkey Agar No.3 (500g) is a selective and differential medium used for the isolation and differentiation of Gram-negative enteric bacteria, particularly members of the Enterobacteriaceae family, from clinical, food, and environmental samples. It is especially effective for detecting Escherichia coli and other coliforms based on lactose fermentation.

- Application: Isolation and differentiation of lactose-fermenting and non-lactose-fermenting Gram-negative bacteria
- Composition: Contains bile salts and crystal violet to inhibit Gram-positive organisms; lactose and neutral red indicator allow differentiation of lactose fermenters
- Preparation: Suspend 49g in 1 liter of distilled water, mix thoroughly, and autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes
- Yield: Approximately 10.2 liters of prepared medium
- Storage: Store the dehydrated medium at 10–30°C, protected from moisture and light
- Compliance: Suitable for microbiological testing in food, water, and clinical diagnostics for the detection of coliforms and other enteric bacteria.
