Oxoid™ Clostridium Difficile Agar Base (500g) is a selective medium designed for the isolation and identification of Clostridium difficile from clinical samples, particularly stool specimens. The medium supports the growth of C. difficile while inhibiting the growth of other competing microorganisms. The inclusion of specific ingredients, such as cycloserine and cefoxitin, provides selective pressure to ensure that C. difficile can be differentiated from other bacteria, and the agar base is typically supplemented with additional compounds to enhance the growth of C. difficile and assist in toxin production detection.
