Oxoid™ Cholera Medium TCBS 500g

Oxoid™ Cholera Medium TCBS (500g), also known as Thiosulphate Citrate Bile Salts Sucrose (TCBS) Agar, is a selective and differential medium specifically designed for the isolation of Vibrio species, particularly Vibrio cholerae and Vibrio parahaemolyticus, from clinical, food, and environmental samples. The high pH and selective agents inhibit the growth of most intestinal flora, while the sucrose content allows for differentiation based on fermentation.

• Composition: Contains thiosulphate and citrate to inhibit coliforms, bile salts to suppress Gram-positive organisms, and sucrose to differentiate fermenters (V. cholerae produces yellow colonies)
• Preparation: Suspend 89g of the dehydrated medium in 1 litre of distilled water, mix thoroughly, and heat to dissolve. Do not autoclave.
• Yield: Approximately 5.6 litres of prepared medium
• Storage: Store the dehydrated medium at 10–30°C, protected from moisture and light
