Description
Oxoid™ Brilliant Green Bile Broth 2% is a selective medium designed for the detection and confirmation of coliform organisms, particularly in water, milk, dairy products, and food samples. It is commonly used for the 44°C confirmatory test for Escherichia coli.
The medium contains brilliant green and bile salts, which inhibit the growth of most organisms other than coliforms. It is ideal for use in microbiological tests that require the detection of coliforms by their ability to ferment lactose and produce gas.

- Composition: Peptone, lactose, ox bile (purified), brilliant green
- Preparation: Suspend 40g in 1 litre of distilled water; autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes
- Storage: Store the dehydrated medium at 10–30°C; store prepared medium below 25°C
- Yield: Approximately 12.5 litres of medium
- pH: 7.4 ± 0.2 at 25°C
