Oxoid™ Brilliant Green Agar Modified 500g

Oxoid™ Brilliant Green Agar Modified (500g) is a selective medium used for the isolation of Salmonella species (excluding Salmonella Typhi) from food, water, and clinical samples. The modified formulation contains brilliant green dye, which inhibits the growth of Gram-positive bacteria and many Gram-negative bacilli, while allowing Salmonella to grow. The inclusion of lactose and sucrose enables differentiation based on fermentation, as non-fermenting Salmonella produce red to pink colonies, often surrounded by a red zone, whereas fermenters typically form yellow to green colonies.

• Preparation: Suspend 57g of the dehydrated medium in 1 litre of distilled water, mix thoroughly, and heat with frequent agitation to dissolve completely. Do not autoclave.

• Storage: Store the dehydrated medium at 10–30°C, protected from moisture and light.
