Description
LV Agar (Liver Veal Agar) is a highly nutritious microbiological culture medium formulated for the cultivation and isolation of fastidious anaerobic microorganisms. The medium is particularly effective for the growth of sporulating anaerobic bacteria, including Clostridium species, and is widely used in food, dairy and clinical microbiology laboratories. It is recommended by both the APHA and the FDA's Bacteriological Analytical Manual (BAM) for the cultivation of anaerobic organisms.
The formulation contains liver and veal infusions, proteose peptone, gelatin and tryptone to provide a rich source of nutrients, while starch enhances the growth of anaerobic bacteria. When supplemented with egg yolk, the medium can also be used for the cultivation and differentiation of a range of clinically significant anaerobic organisms.
