Description

Filter Cards Scorched for Sediment Tests, 57 x 155 mm (Gerber Instruments, SKU 09.0110)

These specialist filter cards are used in dairy laboratories to assess the cleanliness and manufacturing quality of milk powder products. During testing, a prepared milk powder sample is filtered through the card, allowing any scorched or burnt particles to be collected and examined. The amount of residue retained on the filter helps determine whether the product meets industry quality standards. Supplied for use in accordance with recognised dairy testing methods including ADPI standards.

When milk powder is manufactured, the product is exposed to heat during drying. If the process becomes too hot, tiny burnt particles can form. These particles may affect the appearance and quality of the finished product.

The filter card acts like a very fine sieve:

  1. A milk powder sample is mixed with water.
  2. The liquid is passed through the filter card.
  3. Any burnt or unwanted particles are trapped on the filter surface.
  4. The laboratory technician compares the amount of material collected against standard reference charts.
  5. The results indicate whether the milk powder has been processed correctly.
