Description

The TRUPCR® HSV 1/2 real-time PCR detection kit is an in vitro nucleic acid amplification assay for the qualitative single tube detection of Herpes Simplex Virus-1 (HSV-1) and Herpes Simplex Virus-2 (HSV-2) from clinical samples. Herpes Simplex Virus 1 and 2 (HSV-1&2) are both members of the herpes virus family, Herpesviridae.

HSV-1 and HSV-2 have relatively large double-stranded DNA genomes. HSVs are primarily transmitted by sexual intercourse, direct contact with lesions or perinatally. Most HSV positive cases are characterised by lesions on the skin and mucous membranes of the mouth and genitals. HSV infections can be either primary or a recurrence of a previous infection.

More than 90% of the primary HSV infections are asymptomatic. Primary infection with HSV-1 can lead to gingivostomatitis, eczema herpeticum, keratoconjunctivitis and encephalitis; primary HSV-2 infection occurs as, among others, vulvovaginitis, meningitis and generalised herpes in newborns. The primary symptoms of a secondary infection are skin lesions in the nose, mouth and genital regions.

Even more severe are the recurrent forms of keratoconjunctivitis and meningitis. The kit is based on amplification of a conserved region of the viral genome. In this kit, multiplex reactions are running in parallel in single tube:

1. HSV-1 in FAM channel
2. HSV-2 in HEX channel
3. Internal control (IC) DNA in TexRed channel

Key Features

  • The test allows highly sensitive qualitative detection of HSV1 and HSV2.
  • Single Tube HSV1 and HSV2 detection and differentiation.
  • The kit is validated on several extraction kits
  • The PCR kit uses “hot-start” Taq-polymerase enzyme which greatly reduces the frequency of non-specifically primed reactions.
  • This test is validated on different real time machines (Applied Biosystems 7500/7500 Fast DX/StepOne/StepOne Plus Real-Time PCR System, Biorad CFX96™, LineGene 9600 / 9600 Plus, QuantStudio™ 3/5 Real-Time PCR System, Rotor-Gene 3000/6000/Q).
  • Easy workflow with ready-to-use reagents.
