Thiosulfate Citrate Bile Salts Sucrose (TCBS) Agar is a highly selective medium designed for the isolation and differentiation of Vibrio species, particularly Vibrio cholerae and Vibrio parahaemolyticus, from clinical, food, and environmental samples.

The selective formulation of TCBS Agar inhibits the growth of most non-Vibrio organisms, while sucrose fermentation allows differentiation between Vibrio species — V. cholerae produces yellow colonies, and V. parahaemolyticus forms green to blue-green colonies.
