Description
Oxoid™ Violet Red Bile Glucose Agar (Dehydrated) is a selective medium formulated for the detection and enumeration of Enterobacteriaceae in food products. This glucose-containing medium enhances the recovery of glucose-fermenting Enterobacteriaceae, including coliforms, Salmonella, Shigella, and heat-resistant species such as Klebsiella and Citrobacter.
Key Features:
- Form: Dehydrated powder
- Weight: 3kg
- Application: Detection and enumeration of Enterobacteriaceae in food products
- Selective Agents: Crystal violet and bile salts inhibit Gram-positive bacteria
- Differentiation: Glucose fermentation lowers the pH, resulting in purple-pink colonies due to the neutral red indicator
- Preparation: Suspend 41.5g in 1 liter of distilled water, heat gently to dissolve completely, bring to a boil while stirring, cool to 45–50°C, and pour into sterile Petri dishes. Do not autoclave.
- Yield: Approximately 72 liters of prepared medium
- Storage: Store the dehydrated medium at 10–30°C, protected from moisture and light
- Compliance: Developed to meet ISO standards for reproducibility and accurate counts of Enterobacteriaceae
