Description
Oxoid™ TBX Agar (Tryptone Bile X-Glucuronide Agar) is a chromogenic medium formulated for the selective detection and enumeration of Escherichia coli in food and water samples. It conforms to ISO 16649-2 and is widely used in food microbiology for routine safety and quality control testing.

- Composition: Contains tryptone, bile salts, and X-Glucuronide; E. coli produces distinctive blue-green colonies due to β-glucuronidase activity
- Preparation: Suspend 41.5g in 1 litre of distilled water, heat gently to dissolve, autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes, cool to 44–47°C, and pour into sterile Petri dishes
- Yield: Approximately 60 litres of prepared medium
- Storage: Store between 10–30°C, protected from moisture and light
- Compliance: Complies with ISO 16649-2 for microbiological testing of food products
