Description
Oxoid™ Lauryl Tryptose Broth (Lauryl Sulphate Broth) (500g) is a selective enrichment medium commonly used for the detection of coliforms and other faecal organisms in water, food, and environmental samples. It contains sodium lauryl sulfate, which inhibits the growth of most Gram-positive bacteria while allowing coliforms to proliferate. The medium is designed to support the growth of coliforms and other enteric bacteria during the preliminary stages of microbiological testing, such as the multiple-tube fermentation method for faecal coliform detection.
Key Features:
- Form: Dehydrated powder
- Weight: 500g
- Application: Enrichment medium for the detection of coliforms and faecal organisms in water, food, and environmental samples
- Composition: Contains tryptose for bacterial growth, sodium lauryl sulfate for selective inhibition of Gram-positive organisms, and other nutrients to support the growth of coliforms
- Preparation: Suspend 36g of the dehydrated medium in 1 litre of distilled water, mix thoroughly, and autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes
- Yield: Approximately 13.9 litres of prepared medium
- Storage: Store the dehydrated medium at 10–30°C, protected from moisture and light
- Compliance: Suitable for use in microbiological testing protocols for the detection of coliforms and faecal contamination
