Description
Oxoid™ Eosin Methylene Blue (EMB) Agar (500g) is a selective and differential medium designed for the isolation and differentiation of Gram-negative enteric bacteria, particularly coliforms and Escherichia coli, from clinical, food, and environmental samples. The dyes eosin and methylene blue inhibit Gram-positive organisms and also serve as indicators of lactose fermentation.

- Application: Isolation and differentiation of Gram-negative enteric bacteria, especially coliforms and E. coli
- Composition: Contains lactose, eosin Y, and methylene blue; lactose-fermenting organisms produce colored colonies
- Preparation: Suspend 36g in 1 liter of distilled water, mix thoroughly, and heat gently to dissolve completely. Do not autoclave.
- Yield: Approximately 13.8 liters of prepared medium
- Storage: Store the dehydrated medium at 10–30°C, protected from moisture and light
- Compliance: Suitable for use in microbiological testing protocols for the detection of coliforms and E. coli in clinical, food, and environmental samples.
