Oxoid™ DRBC Agar Base (500g) is a selective medium designed for the isolation and enumeration of yeasts and moulds, particularly in food, water, and environmental samples. This medium is commonly used in microbiological testing for the detection of fungi, especially in samples where yeast and mould contamination is a concern. The DRBC (Dichloran Rose Bengal Chloramphenicol) Agar Base can be supplemented with additional compounds like chloramphenicol to inhibit bacterial growth, providing an optimal environment for fungal growth. The inclusion of rose bengal gives a characteristic colour, aiding in the identification of fungal colonies based on their distinct morphology.
