Oxoid™ Bolton Selective Enrichment Broth Base 500g

Oxoid™ Bolton Selective Enrichment Broth Base (500g) is a dehydrated culture medium designed for the selective pre-enrichment of Campylobacter species, particularly Campylobacter jejuni, from food and environmental samples. This medium is formulated to resuscitate sub-lethally injured cells and promote the growth of Campylobacter spp., reducing the risk of false-negative results in microbiological testing.

• Composition: Contains nutrients such as meat peptone, lactalbumin hydrolysate, yeast extract, sodium chloride, alpha-ketoglutaric acid, sodium pyruvate, sodium metabisulphite, sodium carbonate, and haemin to support the growth of Campylobacter spp.
• Preparation: Suspend 13.8g of the medium in 500ml of distilled water, mix thoroughly, and sterilise by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes. After cooling to 50°C, aseptically add 25ml of Laked Horse Blood (SR0048) and 1 vial of Bolton Broth Selective Supplement (SR0183), reconstituted as directed. Mix well and distribute into sterile screw-top containers.
• Storage: Store the dehydrated medium at 10–30°C, protected from moisture and light. Prepared medium can be stored at 2–8°C for up to 2 weeks.
• Compliance: Suitable for use in microbiological testing protocols for the detection of Campylobacter species
