Description

BCYE agar is a non‑selective growth medium. A laboratory agar used to grow and confirm Legionella bacteria from water samples, supporting clear, reliable results in routine Legionella testing.
Applications:
It is used to clearly support Legionella growth once other bacteria have been reduced or ruled out.
Used in laboratories supporting Legionella water testing across healthcare, hospitality, public buildings, water treatment facilities, and environmental testing, as well as construction, concrete and geotechnical laboratories involved in building and infrastructure projects.
Key Features & Benefits:
  • Ready to use – no preparation needed
  • Supplied as a pre‑poured plate, saving time and removing the need to prepare media in the lab.
  • Supports strong Legionella growth
  • Provides the nutrients Legionella needs to grow clearly, making results easier to see and confirm
  • Includes essential growth ingredients
  • Legionella cannot grow without L‑cysteine and iron – this agar contains both to ensure reliable growth
  • Helps confirm test results - Often used after selective media to confirm that colonies observed are Legionella
  • Clear and easy‑to‑read plates
  • Designed to make Legionella colonies easier to recognise during routine laboratory work
