Description
Oxoid™ Iron Sulphite Agar (Modified Cameron Sulphite) (500g) is a selective medium used for the enumeration and detection of Clostridium perfringens in food and water samples. The medium contains iron salts and sodium sulphite, which enable the detection of sulphite-reducing clostridia by the formation of characteristic black colonies.
Key Features:
- Form: Dehydrated powder
- Weight: 500g
- Application: Enumeration and detection of Clostridium perfringens in food and water samples
- Composition: Contains iron salts and sodium sulphite for the selective detection of sulphite-reducing clostridia; peptones provide essential nutrients
- Preparation: Suspend 50g in 1 liter of distilled water, mix thoroughly, and heat to dissolve completely. Sterilize by boiling (do not autoclave). Cool to 45–50°C before pouring.
- Yield: Approximately 10 liters of prepared medium
- Storage: Store the dehydrated medium at 10–30°C, protected from moisture and light
- Compliance: Suitable for use in standardized microbiological methods for the detection of C. perfringens, particularly in food and environmental testing.
