RT-PCR offers the advantages of extremely high sensitivity and specificity, especially on samples where the ELISA method reaches its limitations (ie cross-reactivity, or highly processed matrices). This makes RT-PCR an excellent complementary tool to the immunological techniques used in allergen testing.
