Description
Cultivate and isolate a wide variety of fastidious microorganisms with Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Columbia Blood Agar with Neomycin. Columbia Agar is an ideal base medium for the addition of blood especially in selective formulations when supplemented with antimicrobial agents.
The addition of defibrinated horse blood, in this case, facilitates cultivation of fastidious microorganisms. Neomycin creates a selectively anaerobic environment for the cultivation of anaerobes such as clostridia species.
Traditionally, blood agar bases have been either casein hydrolysate or meat infusion media. The advantage of the first lies in the rapid production of large colonies and of the second in clearly defined zones of hemolysis and good colonial differentiation.
Oxoid™ Columbia Blood Agar with Neomycin combines the virtues of both of these types of media to give an improved all-round performance, showing versatility and superior performance in several applications.1
- Facilitates growth of large colonies of fastidious microorganisms with clearly defined hemolytic reactions and colonial morphology
- Select for anaerobic bacteria because of the addition of the selective agent Neomycin
- Ready-to-use convenience of prepared media
