Description
Columbia Blood Agar Base is used with blood for the isolation and cultivation of a wide variety of fastidious microorganisms in a laboratory setting. Columbia Blood Agar Base is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans.
Preparation
- Suspend 43.1 g of the medium in one liter of purified water.
- Heat with frequent agitation and boil for one minute to completely dissolve the medium.
- Autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes.
- Cool to 45–50°C and add 5-7% sterile defibrinated horse or sheep blood.
- Mix well before dispensing into sterile Petri dishes.
