Description
Baird-Parker Agar is used for detection and enumeration of Staphylococcus aureus in foods and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. This medium is used extensively for detecting Staphylococcus aureus in foods, dairy products, and other materials.
Preparation
- Suspend 60 g of the medium in one liter of purified water.
- Heat with frequent agitation and boil for one minute to completely dissolve the medium.
- Autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes.
- After cooling to 45 – 50°C, add 50 mL of NCM4010, Egg Yolk Tellurite. Alternatively, add 50 mL of NCM4017, Egg Yolk Emulsion 50%, and 10 mL of NCM4012 Potassium Tellurite 1%.
- Mix thoroughly before dispensing.
